It’s time to get ready for the Rutland Mini Maker Faire Saturday July 30, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the annual Sidewalk Sale Days in Rutland, Vermont. Dozens of makers will exhibit to hundreds of visitors at this unique New England Maker extravaganza!
This is the second year for the Rutland Mini Maker Faire. We need you and your creative, innovative projects to be a part of this exciting new event!
What is Maker Faire?
Maker Faire events across the United States are celebrating a DIY/homegrown invention movement. Whether it’s a home-built robot, video game, handbag, miniature race car, musical instrument, or sustainable micro garden, Maker Faire showcases all that is creative and innovative in our community.
What is Sidewalk Sale Days?
The Sidewalk Sale Days is a two-day event, incorporating affordable shopping, outdoor dining, children’s activities, live music and entertainment for all ages. Center Street and Merchants Row are blocked off to make room for a variety of vendors set up along the street in an open air fashion. Friday evening will feature a series of local musicians and bands that will be set up in the “Pit” parking lot, which is transformed into a unique, amphitheater-like concert venue, with great acoustics. Saturday is jam-packed with more local musicians set up on both streets throughout the day. Saturday will also feature the street circus and rides. This event is expected to bring over 5,000 people into Downtown over the weekend.

What are the characteristics we are looking for as Makers?
A do-it-yourself project that is unique, inspiring, engaging, and interactive with observers. It tells a story. It might be a piece of art… or a tool or project that does something different. It should be something that hasn’t been seen before, or at least by few people. It should not be for commercial purposes – no selling….at least in the Maker Demo Space. The Maker needs to be there to demo and explain. There may be different categories in size…fits in a 10×10 space, or bigger, but outside. There may be an opportunity for a different category of Maker, a company that is experimenting with some one-off projects…things that do unique things. Its okay to take commercial things and do a “mash-up” that repurposes in unique and “ah hah” ways, ie, an underwater bicycle. Risky projects are encouraged, but need to be managed in a way that the audience and property remain safe. For example a rocket-propelled motorcycle would be great, but would need to be shown in a safe way.
Who should apply for a Rutland Mini Maker Faire booth?
Local, regional, and national groups, clubs, individuals, schools, universities, and hobbyists who can demonstrate or actually show the making of their invention/craft/project in a contained booth setting.
