Under supervision, the Cardiac Sonographer utilizes high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical diagnosis. The Cardiac Sonographer must be able to produce and evaluate ultrasound images and related data that are used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis. The Cardiac Sonographer must acquire and maintain specialized technical skills and medical knowledge to render quality patient care and institute life saving measures.
|§ Graduate of an AMA accredited educational program for Diagnostic Sonography or equivalent.
§ Registry preferred, or registry eligible within 1 year of assuming position.
|Minimum Work Experience
|§ Prior experience preferred.
|§ Fulfills annual requirements for safety.
§ CPR Certification.
|Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
|§ Cardiovascular echocardiography.
§ Knowledge of all departmental equipment.
§ Knowledge of infection control.
§ Demonstrates safe, knowledgeable practice skills at all times based on theory and consistent with Policies and Procedures.
§ Able to recognize abnormal structure and be able to correlate this information into a useful study.
§ Must be able to deviate from normal techniques, when necessary; to develop new techniques.
§ Must be able to utilize ancillary devices, i.e., selected transducers.
§ Basic Microsoft Windows desktop application and navigation skills.
