In this course participants create and make using new tools and explore how creating and making can support personalized learning and help students develop and document proficiency based graduation requirements. Participants will complete hands-on workshops with maker-educators to experience maker empowerment as a student. We will visit both a school and community makerspace, build new skills and experience design thinking as an approach to problem finding and problem solving. The course will include reading and discussion of literature related to innovative pedagogy and transformative practices made possible with new tools for creating and making.

- Build skills for using tools and practices for creating and making

• Practice design thinking process and apply the process to creating, making several mini projects
• Tour school and community makerspaces
• Make connections to pedagogical practices that support Personalized Learning, Project Based learning, and Proficiency Based Graduation Requirements
Participants will be able to
–use new tools for creating and making
–identify pedagogical practices that can be supported using schools and or community makerspaces
–create a plan for creating opportunities for learning through creating and making for students in their classroom or school.
