Michelle Heitkamp joins the Rutland community as the Program Coordinator/Job Coach for Real Careers @ Rutland County, a new pilot program designed and administered by the Rutland Region Workforce Investment Board, in partnership with REDC, and funded by a grant from the Vermont Department of Labor.
Real Careers is working with in-school and out-of-school young adults to help them create and implement a viable career plan that prepares them for one of the many well-paying jobs in our region. Employers in Rutland County need hardworking and skilled employees and recent high school graduates in our area need rewarding careers with opportunities for growth and advancement.
Michelle will be working with seniors at Mill River High School and Otter Valley High School starting with the 2018-2019 school year. She is available now to work with recent graduates from all our Rutland County schools who are interested in getting support to gain the skills necessary to attain competitive jobs in the region. Michelle says,
“I look forward to assisting youth in training up, We have been and will be reaching out to Rutland County employers to learn first hand what skills our young people need for specific jobs. Many local employers have committed their time and resources to helping our young people succeed. For their efforts, they will be able to hire skilled young adults interested in long-term employment and advancement.”
Michelle is a graduate of Champlain College with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and has worked for over 15 years in human services. Michelle spent the last 8 years at Northlands Job Corps Center in various roles from Career Counselor to Manager and Student Personnel Officer. Michelle recently relocated to Rutland County with her 10-year old son.
