
The REDC & Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Committee presented to Rutland County legislators at Castleton University on Tuesday, June 14th.
The presentation updated legislators on REDC’s activities over the last six months, including over 500 contacts with businesses and other partners, leadership in regional initiatives such as an Airport Development Committee, and collaboration with Killington to boost tourism to the region’s biking and trail riding destinations.
Committee members also presented suggested changes to existing legislation, and REDC thanked legislators for supporting career and technical education, higher education, and business supports such as the Vermont Training Program, Vermont Employment Growth Incentive, and Regional Economic Development Grants.
Senators Brian Collamore and Kevin Mullin and Representatives Bill Canfield, Larry Cupoli, Peter Fagan, Bob Helm, Butch Shaw, and Tom Terenzini attended. Brett Long of the Vermont Department of Economic Development also attended the discussion. The audience included REDC and Chamber board members and representatives from Castleton University: Scott Dikeman, Jeff Weld, Jonathan Spiro, and President Dave Wolk.
The committee’s next steps will including helping the region communicate a vision of a vibrant economy and prosperous future for the region. The committee will invite the Vermont Futures Project back to Rutland to present analysis of the economic visioning sessions they conducted around the state.
