REDC is inviting students and their families to a series of events throughout the month of October in celebration of National Manufacturing Day. Rutland County manufacturers will open their doors for visitors on their designated day in October to highlight their innovative technology, career pathways, and employee benefits.
The concept is in its first year with REDC, but National Manufacturing Day has been recognized nationwide since 2012 to address the shortage of workers in manufacturing while highlighting the exciting careers available within the field. The official National Manufacturing Day takes place every year on the first Friday in October. To kick-off our series of events in Rutland, all are invited to The MINT - Rutland’s Makerspace on Friday, October 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Individuals and families are invited to network from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., which will be followed by opportunities to become makers with The MINT’s latest technology and leave with their own handmade projects.
The rest of the month will consist of open houses from Ellison Surface Technologies, First Light Technologies, General Electric, and Hubbardton Forge. Dates and times of each location will vary. For detailed information including specific dates, times and safety measures stay tuned and check back in at rutlandeconomy.com/mfg-day.
To finish the month, individuals and families interested in pursuing careers within manufacturing are encouraged to attend a One-Stop Shop event at the Community College of Vermont (CCV) in Rutland on Tuesday, November 5 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. This event will provide an opportunity to continue conversations with area employers, discuss education opportunities with CCV, Stafford Technical Center, and Vermont Technical College, as well as determine eligibility of financial assistance programs for continued education from Vermont Student Assistance Center (VSAC) and Strengthening Working Families Initiative (SWFI).
