Nate Hinson joined us this summer from Castleton University to take on our Economic Development Assistant intern role and immerse himself in the economic development world before finishing his degree. This summer was a great experience for the whole team and we can't wait to see what Nate accomplishes next. Read Nate's note on his internship below.
As I move on from my summer internship at REDC I am grateful for how my position here has connected me with the Rutland community. It is small enough that the individual really can make a difference here. This is how I’ve been made to feel every day of my internship.
I’ve enjoyed greeting visitors, doing research, attending meetings and making phone calls. My main responsibility here has been to maintain our online job board and interface with local businesses and human resources personnel.
I’ve been encouraged to take on projects for REDC that suit my aptitudes and college major. In this way I’ve gained valuable experience practicing my skills in a professional setting.
I’m going to miss everyone in the office. The REDC team cultivates such a positive environment where they work. The people make this place, and I have thrived here.
After months of applying, I have finally been invited to serve with the Peace Corps in 2020. Next January, I will depart to Ecuador where I will teach English as a foreign language for two years. I look forward to broadening my horizons through this cultural exchange.
For the interim I plan on moving west to Los Angeles for a job in the television or film industry. My Communications degree from Castleton University with a focus on video and filmmaking has prepared me for the LA plunge. I can’t wait!
