Time flies when you’re busy making! The MINT – Rutland’s Makerspace is celebrating two years in operation at this year’s MINTacular held on Saturday, August 17 from 2 to 5 P.M. at The MINT at 112 Quality Lane, Rutland. If you’ve never seen the space or have an interest in becoming a member, MINTacular’s open house format is a great opportunity to investigate and join.
The afternoon will be full of makerspace activities, which are open to the public. There will be tours of the space and stops at the woodshop, metal shop, rapid prototyping lab, electronics lab, stained glass lab, jewelry lab, and any special projects from members. Whether you’re interested in seeing sparks fly in the metal shop or watching the 3D printer at work, there’s something exciting for everyone at The MINT. Touring The MINT will also allow you to meet the varied types of members who take part in the maker community in Rutland. Members include hobbyists, DIY enthusiasts, educators, students, entrepreneurs, non-profit, and for-profit companies. In addition to tours and demos, the event will also include cake to celebrate two years in business.
There will also be an exciting announcement from The MINT’s OnRamp program. With all of the applications submitted, the OnRamp entrepreneurial development program committee will be reviewing and choosing the first cohort to go through the year-long program. The six program participants to make up the first class will be announced at the event on August 17.
While The MINT’s grand opening was in August 2017, the hardworking volunteers and members have been building our community makerspace for much longer. Which makes this year special as The MINT celebrates growing membership, increased classes and workshops, and big plans for the future. Stay tuned to future REDC newsletters to follow The MINT’s growth and become a member today to be part of the maker community.
